11' DHmini

I've been tinkering with the idea of a one man marsh boat for several years, over that time I've drawn up several designs and stored numerous ideas in my head. But when it came down to it, I really like the DH design so why reinvent the wheel. My goal was to design a boat small enough to transport in a truckbed, light enough to handle by one person, and to be hunted like a layout boat. The DHmini meets all of those needs! As shown, the opening the cockpit is 19" wide by 6' long, with about 8' of length from bulkhead to bulkhead. I'm planning to open the cockpit up a little wider on the next and remove a little bit of the covered storage at the front of the cockpit, making it easier to access the front storage compartment through the bow bulkhead. The rear compartment will be a little larger providing a good sitting area for your retriever. The current DHmini resides in VA and I will be happy to put you in touch with owner at your request.

I will also be offering a DHmini XL (kind of an oxymoron...I know) where the boat will remain 36" wide from the mid point back. This will increase not only the capacity but also the HP rating (5hp). With this will come an increase of the cockpit with to around 22" or 23". The DHmini XL will price at $2500 however, if you are the first to order one I will offer it at a price of $2000.

Length: 11" on deck Max Width: 36" on the floor, 42" on the rail
Side Height: 6", 14" to the top of the coaming Weight: 130 lbs
Capacity: 350 lbs Suggested Motor: 3.5hp

Cost $2000:

  • Wood, screws & hardware.  The boat will be constructed of Okuome BS 1088 Marine Ply and clear fir.   Hardware will either be solid brass or stainless and screws are Primeguard Plus.

  • 3M 5200 Marine Adhesive (arguably the best adhesive/sealant on the market)

  • epoxy, 6oz fiberglass cloth, 7.5oz fiberglass tape (entire exterior will be fiberglassed including fiberglass tape on all the seams; the interior will be coated in epoxy and painted)

  • electrical ( 2 conveniently located auxiliary plugs, bilge pump, running lights,  marine tinned wire, all connections either soldered and heat shrinked or with butt connectors and dielectric grease)

  • fused rocker panel control for running lights, 7 interior LEDs , & 750 gph bilge pump

  • sealed 12v 7 amp hour battery

  • Grizzly Grip Spray-In bedliner on the floor of cockpit and both compartments, which further waterproofs the interior as well as adding traction and protection from gas & oil. The top of the decking will also be coated with Grizzly grip for a non slip walking surface.

  • Graphite coated super slick bottom.
  • custom aluminum transom bracket/plate that serves to strengthen transom, distribute motor weight and allow the motor to be shimmed to the correct height
  • 2 part marine foam in the fore and aft compartments to provide emergency floatation
  • Lock, Stock and Barrell Flat Marine enamel and custom camo paint job.

Also Included:

  • LED Strip Lights  An awesome addition, 7 LED strip lights, five in the main cockpit, one in the rear storage compartment and one in the front storage compartment.  Never have to use a flashlight to see the interior of your boat again!  These lights put out an amazing amount of light and draw very little power. These pictures were made in complete darkness with only the LED's illuminating the interior of the boat.

  • Flapper Boards  These allow you to conceal yourself even further as well as add additional decoy carrying capacity outside of the cockpit.  Just grass with local vegetation to make for a nice flip down blind.  With the flappers down it would be easy to carry a dozen and a half goose floaters on each side.  Once they are in place, just bungee them down.
